From 18th to 24 July this year, an organisation called "Christians Linked Across the Nation" (CLAN, hereafter referred to as such) will be having their annual "Gathering" in my home town...
...quite literally on my back doorstep.
They've been a "feature" of my neighbourhood's summer for some years now, with the exception of 2006 to 2008, when they found a new venue on the edge of town - the opposite edge from me, and we never crossed paths. This year, it seems that things are going back to the way they were, and my community is going to have to endure several hundred Christians in a tent (sometimes several tents), doing their amplified, happy-clappy thing into the night, for a whole WEEK.
Their venue will be the local secondary school, which is literally a hundred yards from where I live, and have always lived. Needless to say, I am NOT happy.
We have NEVER been consulted on this, nor do we have any idea who to contact with our objections. This group just turn up, and impose themselves on us - and now it's time to return the favour.
I could protest. I could put up banners, I have a tent I can pitch in my back garden - but instead, I have a different course of action in mind. They want to "celebrate their beliefs"? Well, so will I - don't know how compatible they'll be, but I do know I'll be operating completely within the law, on my own property, simply going about my own lawful business...
